Hiking through the Lady Bird Johnson Trail
It is difficult to call this a hike since it is so short and flat, but what the heck. This trail was beautiful, it was one of the only times while we were in the Redwood forest that it wasn’t raining. Like I already mentioned the trail is just over a mile long and very flat. Like the James Irvine trail, this one has mostly ferns on the ground and redwoods in the sky. On this trail, more than any of the other we went on, you get a real appreciation for how much turmoil these trees can go through and yet they survive. We saw many trees that had been ravaged by fire, some of which were missing more than 60% of their cross section do to fire, and yet they live on. Don’t let my lack of comments fool you this is a great trail and a must see if you are in the area.
Trail Details
Length: ~1.2 miles (loop)
Elevation Change: <50ft

Its probably perfect that this redwood grove is not really a “hike”, and is relatively easy.
Because for the – up to 50 or so – people with permits for Tall Trees Grove, both trails can be done easily in one day.
And Tall Trees Grove is a bit vigorous on the return up the hill.
Lady Bird Johnson almost looks it’s best when the fog is out, from the images I’ve looked at.
